Activity Overview

A growing number of available obesity medications offer a variety of indications, mechanisms, and clinical uses—and more are under investigation. Keeping track of agents that fit a particular patient is a growing challenge for clinicians who manage obesity. In this program, 2 experts unpack recent guideline recommendations and clinical trial data for approved and emerging obesity medications, then apply that evidence to a patient case to model how to build an individualized, guideline-informed treatment plan.

Target Audience

This educational activity is directed toward endocrinologists, diabetes specialists, dietitians, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses. Other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with obesity are also invited to participate.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:

  • Outline guideline recommended best practices for the management of obesity and associated comorbidities
  • Evaluate clinical trial efficacy and safety data for current and emerging therapies for the management of obesity
  • Implement recommended procedures to prevent, minimize, or manage adverse events associated with anti-obesity medications (AOMs)
  • Design individualized, comprehensive, guideline-supported AOM-based treatment plans that optimize short- and long-term clinical outcomes while improving health-related quality of life in patients with obesity
