Activity Overview
Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by low platelet counts due to immune-mediated destruction and reduced production, which can lead to severe bleeding and a significant decline in quality of life. Beyond physical symptoms, patients often face fatigue, emotional distress, and cognitive challenges. Despite treatment advances, managing ITP, especially in cases resistant to first-line therapy, remains complex, with limited guidance on second-line treatment sequencing. New therapies targeting various immune pathways are expanding options, but shared decision-making remains underutilized in practice. Cases and Conversations™ uses a case-based learning format to help clinicians navigate these evolving strategies, apply evidence-based care, and improve patient outcomes.
This educational activity is an archive of the live virtual symposium held on June 1, 2025.
Target Audience
This educational activity is directed toward a global audience of hematologists, specialty advanced practice providers, and nurses who treat patients with ITP.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
- Outline the burden of disease of immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)
- Integrate screening tools to assess health-related quality of life for patients with ITP into management plans
- Analyze clinical trial data for current and emerging agents used in the management of ITP
- Design individualized management plans using shared decision-making principles for patients with ITP
