Activity Overview
The BURST CME™ format is an online, on-demand video program designed to deliver concise, modular education. In these modules, Pam Taub, MD; and Payal Kohli, MD, review the relationship between lipoprotein(a) or Lp(a) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), proper Lp(a) testing, selecting appropriate patients for testing, as well as current and emerging therapies to reduce the risk of ASCVD in patients with elevated Lp(a). A case study will be reviewed to illustrate how patients with elevated Lp(a) can be effectively managed, with expert faculty providing clinical pearls along the way.
Target Audience
This educational activity is directed toward cardiologists, lipidologists, primary care providers, NPs, PAs, RNs, and other health care professionals involved in the management of ASCVD and its risk-associated factors.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
- Describe the role of Lp(a) in the atherosclerotic processes that lead to ASCVD
- Outline which patient populations should be screened for elevated Lp(a) as a step toward reducing their risk for ASCVD
- Explain the progressive impact of elevated LDL-C levels on the risk of ASCVD onset
- Evaluate safety and efficacy data of new and emerging lipid-lowering therapies for ASCVD risk reduction
- Implement tailored treatment plans for patients who have or are at risk for ASCVD due to persistently elevated levels of LDL-C and/or Lp(a)
