Activity Overview
A variety of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices are available to provide ongoing data and help patients with diabetes and their clinicians achieve improved glucose control and reduce the risk of complications (eg, hypoglycemia). In this Burst CME program, an expert physician and pharmacist discuss the features of CGM systems, share perspectives on recent guidelines on CGM use, offer suggestions on improving the patient experience with these devices, and discuss updates in ketone monitoring.
Target Audience
This educational activity is directed toward primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, and other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with diabetes.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
- Describe currently available and emerging CGM technologies and their value in diabetes management
- Summarize current practice guidelines for the use of CGM to help achieve blood glucose targets in patients with diabetes
- Implement a structured approach to the evaluation of CGM data provided in an ambulatory glucose profile report
- Evaluate the potential benefits of continuous ketone monitoring in the prevention of diabetic ketoacidosis compared with currently used methods for plasma ketone measurement
- Design individualized care plans using CGM for optimal diabetes management
