Activity Overview
Biologic therapies have transformed the management of psoriasis. Yet, despite their clinical benefits, patients often face delays in accessing these treatments due to payer requirements, specialty pharmacy distribution models, and administrative hurdles. One mitigation strategy commonly adopted in dermatology practices is the buy-and-bill model, which allows providers to purchase, store, and administer biologics directly in the clinic before submitting reimbursement claims to third-party payers. This article examines the structure of the buy-and-bill model, its advantages and challenges, and practical recommendations for its implementation in dermatology practices.
Target Audience
This educational activity is directed toward dermatologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with psoriasis.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
- Explain the potential advantages and disadvantages of using a buy-and-bill model for access to biologic therapies to treat psoriasis
- Outline recommendations for implementing a buy-and-bill model process into dermatology practice
