Activity Overview
Blepharitis is an eye disease that is characterized by inflammation of the eyelid margin, redness, and ocular irritation. Among the many causes of blepharitis are Demodex mites, the most common ectoparasite found on human skin. Although blepharitis is common, Demodex as a causative organism is often overlooked. Studies have found that about 58% of patients presenting to eye clinics for any reason show signs of Demodex blepharitis; estimated cases in the US approach 25 million. Left undiagnosed, Demodex blepharitis can result in significant morbidity.
The purpose of this Burst CME continuing education program is to increase the knowledge of clinicians on the epidemiology of Demodex blepharitis. Dr Selina McGee also reviews the disease burden and impact of Demodex symptoms on patients’ quality of life.
