Activity Overview

This activity is a video-based program in which 2 experts discuss the etiology of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and the management of hyperlipidemia to reduce risk. Expert faculty focus on the role of elevated lipids in the development of ASCVD and current and emerging therapeutic strategies for treating hyperlipidemia. Their discussion is enriched with the use of video animations to illustrate the pathophysiology of ASCVD and the mechanisms of action of current and emerging lipid-lowering therapies. These animated segments help make somewhat complicated subject matter more easily understood. This unique format is designed to help clinicians identify best practices in the diagnosis and management of hyperlipidemia and to improve outcomes for their patients with this disease.

Target Audience

This educational activity is directed toward cardiologists, lipidologists, primary care physicians, NPs, PAs, and other clinicians who specialize in treating patients with hyperlipidemia.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:

  • Summarize the role of Lp(a) in the atherosclerotic processes that lead to ASCVD
  • Identify patient populations who should be screened for elevated Lp(a) as a step toward reducing their risk for ASCVD
  • Explain the progressive impact of elevated LDL-C levels on the increased risk of ASCVD onset
  • Assess safety and efficacy data of new and emerging lipid-lowering therapies for ASCVD risk reduction
  • Design tailored treatment plans for patients who have or are at risk for ASCVD due to persistently elevated LDL-C levels
