Overview:
Despite the availability of multiple FDA-approved therapies for the management of patients with obesity, there are still many unmet needs in its management. As a result, additional agents are under investigation for the management of obesity. This program will review current guidelines for obesity management and recommendations for the use of currently approved anti-obesity medications and provide insights into investigational agents that may expand the number of therapeutic options and increase health care professionals’ ability to personalize therapy.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the activity, learners should be able to:
- Outline guideline-recommended best practices for the management of obesity and associated comorbidities
- Evaluate clinical trial efficacy and safety data for current and emerging therapies for the management of obesity
- Implement recommended procedures to prevent, minimize, or manage adverse events associated with anti-obesity medications (AOMs)
- Design individualized, comprehensive, guideline-supported AOM-based treatment plans that optimize short- and long-term clinical outcomes while improving health-related quality of life in patients with obesity
Target Audience:
This educational activity is directed towards endocrinologists, diabetes specialists, dietitians, primary care physicians, NPs, PAs, and nurses. Other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with obesity are also invited to participate.
